I bought this with my birthday money in blue and I really like it. I've had it for a couple days now and I really like it compared to the monster desktop I usually use. It runs a little slow and a little hot, but it's not too bad and it doesn't really bother me. I love it for my first computer, and next year I'm going to have a lot more homework so it will be very helpful then. It has Windows 7 Starter so you can't change the desktop background... oh well it's not bad it's just the windows logo on a blue screen. And the keyboard is kind of small, so if you have big fingers it's probably not the best, but I'm eleven and I have tiny fingers. :) So overall I would reccomend this under certain circumstances. It works for me and I'm really happy. great purchase, I don't have any regrets!! :)

"it is what it is" 2010-07-07
By Thomas Foster (Minneapolis, MN USA)
Tiny footprint, HDMI out, low power consumption, low price. This is a neat little unit. I've got a brace of little kvetches:

1) After using it about a month, I came across the backup utility. Run that it says, "It's very important to run this before you use your computer!" Well, now you tell me. Thanks for putting it in the startup folder! The reason for that is that they don't include any OS media. You're getting a bare-bones system. I don't know what you'd do with that backup anyway, as there's no drive on her anywhere. I haven't figured out if the MB will support a bootable mem stick, but it looks like you can boot off ethernet? I dunno how to do that, but I'm intrigued.

2) You can upgrade the membory, but there's no good way to open her. After some time online, the best instruction I got was basically "jam a butterknife in there and don't mess up the case." Well, I was able to do 1/2 of that.

All told the price:performance is very good.

"Acer customer support is terrible" 2010-07-03
By aaa
What a year of annoyance- I had to send in for repair 4 times for the same problem (they never could fix it). They make you pay to ship it to them (make sure and factor that into the price you pay). I initiated mediation through Dept. of Consumer Affairs- they're response was I would have to keep sending it back for repair. So I had to take them to small claims court. They settled out of court for purchase price plus $40 for court fees plus $40 for misc. but definitely not worth the hassles.

"Awesome machine for the price!" 2010-07-14
By Jackie Monck (Gainesville, FL United States)
Initally attracted to the Core i5 processor and the 4 gigs of RAM, I was pleasantly surprised with the discounted price at the time. As a somewhat serious computer user - student, small business owner, amateur photographer - I needed something that was affordable, relatively fast, and superbly reliable. Acer has absolutely come through with this one. The only real complaint I have is that the track pad lacks clear definition, so accidental cursor misplacement is common during the acquaintance phase of owning a new machine. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Intel has done an excellent job with their Core series processors, and Acer's fabrication leaves little to complain about. An excellent (and hearty - it has stood up to quite a bit of abuse already in the short time I've owned it,) laptop, suitable for just about anyone who is looking for quality within a budget. Easy to use out of the box, but also easily customizable for those of us who are a bit more discriminating in how we want things to work.

 "great laptop" 2010-05-29
By K. Nakasato
It look great.
It has best sound for laptop that I owned(10?)
Great battery life.
Same resolution as 720p TV so you can have dual monitor with same resolution.

Cons:
Not really acer's fault, but vista is bloated and eat up processing.
Norton is really junk too.
Acer loads tons of games which cannot be unloaded with one command (probably to discourages business buyers from buying home laptop).
Keyboard has nice feel and look, but it HUGE cavities which I know will be dust trap.
Blinking wifi light near the bottom of screen.

These things are minor and it is better than anything else out there for normal use.

 "Lightening Fast" 2010-06-28
By W. Geiger (Ocala, Fla)
I was looking far a laptop that would give me a quicker response than my Compaq with 1GB of ram. I was told that Windows 7 needed at least a 3GB to operate correctly and this laptop does it all. It also has the Crystal eye camera built in and my old DELL and Compaq had problems receiving the house wireless signal from one end of the house to the other. This computer not only received the signal strong but continues to operate at real-time speed. I am impressed with the long battery life . Its light weight and i take it everywhere now .

"Good value with minor issues" 2010-06-15
By Len in Sacramento (Sacramento, CA)
This Acer model is a good value with the 250GB hard drive and longer life battery. The surface picks up fingerprints quite easily. The USB slots are a little tight. I purchased the recommended Crucial 2GB RAM upgrade because the 1 GB RAM standard made the processing slow, especially booting up. The Crucial module was a very tight fit but with enough pressure it finally seated. 2 GB RAM definitely made a difference.

 "Good machine; quality iffy" 2010-07-11
By lindros (Atlanta, GA)
Pros: - Raw speed/performance
- Size/weight
- HDMI/USB ports
- Screen brightness
- Windows 7 full version

Cons: - Quality, quality, quality (or lack thereof)
- Balance (machine tends to tip backwards)
- Heat when used on lap
- Screen glare in bright light/sunlight
Other Thoughts: We actually own both the 1810TZ and a 1410. The 1410 is the "better" machine, although BOTH have suffered quality issues.

The 1410 had a loud fan (dislodged part), and it was nearly impossible to find a replacement (so we kept it). (On a related note, our newer 1810TZ has been a nightmare, with a broken "C" key, voltage regulator problem, and screen issues). Finally, the harddrive cable in both machines has separated from the clip holding it to the motherboard, requiring electric tape.

Not good.
